I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to attend our 2007 Angus Bull Sale.

It’s been a very tough year for a large portion of eastern Australia.  Never before have so many issues faced cattlemen.

Topical at the moment, on top of drought, we have:

  • global warming,
  • ethanol production helping push grain prices higher,
  • high Aussie dollar,
  • the US back into our premium Asian markets etc etc.

It is unclear how all these things will effect us going forward.

One thing we can be sure of is that the world will need more and more beef.

With population growth and the increase in affluence, in places like China, the farming sector will be hard pressed to supply enough protein.

It is not going to be easy to meet demand.  With the ethanol industry turning food into fuel the feedlot sector and their ability to add weight quickly will be under pressure.  With global warming and the potential for more frequent and more severe droughts their will be pressure on grass and irrigation based production systems.

We shouldn’t be scared of this.  We just need to adapt and change as we have always done.

At Eaglehawk we have always believed that our cows need to function on as little as possible whilst producing a top quality/quantity farm gate and feedlot article.

The future of beef production will be determined by the animal’s ability to adapt to limited forages.

Currently I see many seedstock producers in many breeds doing the industry a big injustice by supplying over managed, over fed, “fossil fuel” dependant bulls to commercial producers forced to survive with limited rain and the need for a low cost of production.

With my “soap box” out of the way I would like to encourage you to come and take a look at the 66 bulls we have catalogued for this sale.
I believe they are cattle that will help build your herds with regard to the challenges I have outlined.
Our imported sires in Bon View New Design 1407, BR Midland, ACF Neutron 9228 and Sitz Alliance 6595 have proven themselves to be outstanding on both sides of the farm gate.  Our home bred sires are also the cream that has come to the top of our breeding program.  They have passed all tests with regards disposition, fertility, weight gain, carcase, and conformation.
I would like to finish with a quote regarding change.
If you always do what you’ve always done, you will always get what you’ve always got.  Anon
