These Eaglehawk Steers we fed for 70 days and they averaged 2.43kg’s over that time.

This is what its all about in the end!.
Its about weight gain, that’s what we get paid for. We concerntrate on sires that give maximum feed conversion efficiencies without losing performance of the replacement females. Through these past tough years we have found the good ones rise to the top and they are the ones that have good moderate frame size and softness. Don’t go overdoing the marbling if your cattle are a little hard doing. It makes the problem worse. All but two of our sale bulls are above average for marbling (if you are targeting the high marbling market) with a third in the top 10% of the breed. You will notice that they don’t sacrifice the softness EBV’s to do this. ie. Rib fat, Rump fat, growth and carcase.
